Purpose and Mission:

Encourage and promote cultural endeavors
Promote knowledege and appeciation for the arts
Provide a venue for talented and skilled community members to participate in live performances.
To maintain and improve the historic Howells Opera House.

Oakley's Opera House started with a dream, conceived and nurtured by Judge B. P. Howells. In the early part of the century there were no movies, no television, and no radios. Traveling troupes of actors were the only sources of outside entertainment available to small town residents. Judge Howells and his family, along with the rest of the community, looked forward to this entertainment, but the actors did not have a proper place to perform....The theater was finally finished in 1907 at the cost of $22,000....In the late 1920's the Howells family sold the Opera House to the LDS Church...Rising costs and general deterioration forced the church to consider demolishing the structure in the 1970's....A group of residents formed the Oakley Valley Arts Council, and two years later they were able to purchase the playhouse from the LDS Church and begin its restoration. Oakley Valley Arts has been going strong since 1974, so in 2014 we will commemorate forty years of entertaining Magic Valley and Mini-Cassia audiences. All productions are by the love of the theatre and all are donated hours from talented people on stage and behind the scenes. Community theatre at its best is found in Oakley, Idaho at Howells Opera House.

JuMP Company

JuMP Company is a musical theatre for students in first through twelfth grade. JuMP Company was founded in 1984 by Martha Mead and was established to involve young people in the performing arts and to promote higher education.

Each year JuMP Company presents a winter show February and a summer show in July. Over the years, thousands of children have taken part in our productions and we hope they have all grown from the experience.

Every spring our members who are graduating from High School have the oportunity to apply for JuMP Company scholarships. Over the years, JuMP Company has awarded scholarships and other community donations totaling over $75,000.

JuMP Company is a volunteer organization. Everything you see on the stage during a show is done by volunteers. JuMP Company productions take a tremendous amount of time and effort to produce, and without the dedicatof our volunteers the task would be impossible. Thank you to each and everyone of our volunteers.
